A Tobias House Barrier Free Access to Swimming client is being helped into a flotation device by an attendant.
I can get changed, and in and out of the pool - something most people take for granted - with help from the Barrier Free Access to Swimming Program.


The Barrier Free Access to Swimming Program

  • access to swimming at four City of Toronto public pools for people with physical disabilities
  • Tobias staff provide assistance to participants before and after their swimming session
  • a partnership between Tobias House, the City of Toronto Parks Forestry and Recreation, Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre, Scadding Court Community Centre, Anne Johnston Health Station, Ontario March of Dimes, and Bellwoods Centres for Community Living

Consumer Fitness Program

consumers with exercise balls
weekly fitness classes at the Coxwell location, led by a qualified instructor

Grant Fund

  • small donations to individuals to meet costs for equipment not fully covered by available funding programs
  • individuals may also apply for quality of life costs, such as education and travel related costs

Volunteer Program

  • individuals are matched with volunteers of their choice
  • for Tobias House Attendant Care consumers only; other clients must work with the volunteer at Tobias House
